Recently, we had the opportunity to work on a property in Mount Florida, Glasgow. The owner decided to undertake a full renovation, which included removing the entire ceiling and replastering the walls. During this process, some walls were completely removed and replaced with plasterboards, which were then skim-coated. Our task was to ensure that the cornice decoration was completely restored, as some of the cornice elements had become loose and fallen off during the renovation, which is quite common when a house undergoes such extensive work.
The before picture clearly shows how badly the cornice decoration was damaged. However, with our team’s 30 years of experience in cornice repair in Glasgow, this job was not difficult for us. We began by taking samples of the cornice decoration. This particular cornice was made up of eight different elements, each requiring individual restoration and its own silicone mould.
Before creating the silicone moulds, we ensured that all paint was removed from each element to reveal every detail of the original decoration. As seen in the picture at the bottom of the page, each element contributes to the entire cornice decoration. Once we created the missing lengths, we began fitting the newly made cornice.
