In this West End property, the decorative cornice above the window had been missing for a long time. We are experienced in repairing and restoring cornices in tenement properties throughout Glasgow. Due to the age of many tenements, they often suffer from cracks in the cornice decorations. For this project, we started by removing the wallpaper before fitting the newly created cornice decoration. We had to make a silicone mould for each of the seven separate elements that make up the cornice. As seen in the pictures, at some point, the walls had been skimmed with a grey material, which added extra thickness. This presented a challenge, as it required us to create the new cornice with precision to ensure it aligned perfectly with the original decoration. We made the back of the cornice extremely thin to fit it in line with the original cornice. Our team's 30 years of experience allows us to handle such details with great attention and precision. As part of our process, we collected samples from the original cornice, removed the paint from these samples, and created silicone moulds to replicate the missing lengths. Once the necessary lengths were created in our workshop, we fitted the new cornice in place. In the before and after pictures, you can clearly see how the new cornice aligns perfectly with the original. The cornice is now ready for painting, which will help the new sections blend seamlessly with the existing decoration.
