Ceiling Rose Restoration - Bringing a victorian feature back to life

Restoring a Damaged Victorian Ceiling Rose

We were recently tasked with a ceiling rose restoration project involving a large, ornate Victorian-style piece that had fallen from the ceiling and broken into several pieces.

Rather than using commercial paint strippers like Peelaway which can sometimes damage fine decorative details we opted for a gentler, more controlled method to preserve the intricate floral patterns. Each fragment of the ceiling rose was carefully collected, cleaned, and stripped by hand to reveal the original craftsmanship beneath layers of old paint.

Once the surface was properly prepared, we created a high-precision silicone mould from the restored sections. Using this mould, we were able to accurately recreate the entire ceiling rose, ensuring that every curve and detail matched the original.

After casting the new piece, we meticulously finished and fitted it back onto the ceiling, blending the edges and ensuring it looked as though it had never been damaged. You can see from the photos the dramatic transformation from shattered plaster to a fully restored, elegant centrepiece.

If you have a Victorian plaster ceiling rose or any decorative plasterwork that’s been damaged, we’d love to help. Our ceiling rose restoration service focuses on craftsmanship and conservation, ensuring that your home’s original features are preserved not replaced.
